Tremco HQ

Beachwood, OH

Ensuring that the company would "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk", Tremco's Sustainable Technologies Group remodelled Tremco's corporate headquarters building to maximize energy and resource efficiency. As a part of that remodel, The Laughing Earth’s principal designed a sustainable living roof and storm water capture system to function as a "demonstration of the possible." Four main areas - Formal Sedum Garden, Urban Agriculture, Native Rolling Meadow, and Flower Garden - highlighted different design styles, plant communities, and plant assemblages. Slate reclaimed from the building's faces was used for walkways; custom planters demonstrate rooftop agriculture. The north elevated boardwalk is made from Trex, a product made from recycled plastics. A grid-tied PV panel offsest 100% of the energy use from the rooftop LED lighting system, and a storm water capture system collects all runoff from the roofs and feeds it back into the ground irrigation system. The total cost of the entire project met the client's budget of $60/square foot.
