Living Roof Projects

In addition to well-documented benefits of stormwater and energy control, a properly designed living roof can provide wildlife habitat value. We can design and specify the entire system in-house: drainage layers, growing media, irrigation, and planting, with an emphasis on native plants wherever possible. Or we can help you navigate the many modular manufacturer systems. We also coordinate with the design team on waterproofing, leak detection systems, and load requirements.

We approach living roof design with two basic concepts. First, wherever possible, a living roof can be integrated with storm water conveyances for roof and site runoff (and, where possible, HVAC condensate and blowdown). This integration can result in the prevention of up to 90% of runoff from entering sewer systems, and help reduce the size of, or need for, detention/retention ponds. Second, use of locally native plant species offers low maintenance, habitat, regenerative value, and excellent PR.
