Resource-efficiency is high on a list of priorities for an upscale convenience store chain in Texas. The owner decided to move forward with water capture and re-use systems on several new stores, along with native landscape design. Working with the civil engineers, we designed a system that captures storm water runoff from the roof and channels it into an adjacent above-ground tank. The tank was strategically located for maximum public visibility, which led to an interesting challenge: how best to route pipes from roof to tank without having long lengths suspended over walkable areas. Ultimately, the decision was made to suspend the pipes over landscape area, with a decorative post as a design feature.
